Benefits of All-On-4
A person with missing teeth has multiple options to restore their smile. Many people think of dentures as the primary method, but today dental implants are a far more viable option.
In this treatment, small titanium posts are surgically embedded into the jaw bone, providing support for replacement teeth. This allows us to replace a single tooth with an entire arch of teeth. All-on-4 is recommended for patients who have lost multiple adjacent teeth and are looking to replace them with implants.
Are Bone Grafts Necessary to receive Dental Implants?
Patients who have lost a considerable amount of bone mass may need a bone graft before implant surgery can begin. This additional surgery adds to the total cost and recovery time.
In general, when we replace a full arch of missing teeth, six to eight posts are inserted to support the new replacement teeth. If the patient’s jawbone is too weak, it cannot successfully support the posts. The result is that the entire restoration can fail if even a single post gives out. As an alternative to bone grafts, we recommend the All-on-4 treatment.
Placement of the Implants
This treatment allows us to support an entire arch of replacement teeth with only four titanium posts. The success of the procedure depends on how the posts are placed. Two posts are inserted vertically near the front of the jaw, which usually has more bone mass.
The remaining two are embedded near the back of the mouth at a 45-degree angle, which maximizes contact between the jawbone and the posts to ensure fusion between the two. In this way, we can provide better support with fewer posts.
All-on-4 vs. Dentures
All-on-4 has several advantages over dentures.
All-on-4 is more Stable
First of all, while dentures rest on your gums, the dental restorations of All-on-4 rest on posts in your jaw, making them more comfortable and stable. Dentures are secured by adhesives which can wear off, causing them to slip or even fall out. But this does not happen with All-on-4 dental implants.
All-on-4 is Lifelike and Easier to Maintain
Dentures have greatly improved as far as their realistic appearance is concerned, but the dental restorations of All-on-4 are made from ceramic. These ceramic teeth are made to look just like your regular teeth and even reflect light like real enamel. Additionally, you can brush and floss your dental implants just like normal teeth. Dentures do not provide such easy oral care.
All-on-4 Lasts Longer
Finally, the All-on-4 implant posts provide the jawbone with stimulation just like the roots of natural teeth. This preservation of the jawbone helps to prevent bone loss in your jaw. Another benefit of the All-on-4 treatment is that the dental implants will last for years. You will not need to replace them anytime soon as long as you care for them properly.
By using the All-on-4 technique, we can restore the functions of missing teeth while also protecting the health of the jawbone and restoring your quality of life.
